INTERVIEW TIPS

  • Interviews can be a nerve wracking experience. Everyone gets butterflies, but confidence is about control, and getting your butterflies to fly in formation! Attending your interview well prepared and organised will give you the confidence to give it your best shot and land the job you really want. Follow our simple interview tips to give you the best chance possible of impressing your interviewer.

  • Arrive on time for your interview – allow yourself to arrive 10 minutes early and always take into account potential problems with transport and travelling.

  • Dress smartly limiting jewellery, accessories and perfume / aftershave etc. A dark suit and light coloured, well pressed shirt is always recommended.

  • Know the company you are going to work for - get the right pronunciation of the interviewer’s name and know their job title. Read all information given to you about the company and research fully on Internet / brochures / company information.

  • Take references/testimonials to interviews but only offer them if asked.

  • Shake hands firmly and make good eye contact at all times – these simple things can often mean the difference between a job offer or not.

  • Really listen to what the interviewer asks and tells you so you can answer intelligently and relevantly.

  • Your interviewer will be looking for more than just relevant qualifications and experience so make sure you present yourself with the right body language – sit upright and attentively to show interest and confidence, acknowledge what the interviewer says by nodding every now and again to show agreement and keep smiling.

  • Know your CV - you should not have to refer to your CV throughout your interview, so know your employment dates, job titles and responsibilities – have answers ready to explain career changes.

  • Prepare well thought thought out questions based on your knowledge of the company and the role.

  • Try and leave a positive lasting impression as the interview draws to a close.

  • Finally, provide a firm handshake and don’t trip up as you leave. Good luck!
